Holiday Project

HOLIDAYS are the times for connecting … with family…friends…the community at large. Many people are cut off from this connection due to health problems, advanced age, or other circumstances. The Holiday Project provides volunteers with opportunities to let people in need know that they haven’t been forgotten and to brighten their lives by brightening their day!  This is done through organized visits to nursing facilities and hospitals in celebration of selected holidays throughout the year:

Visit dates scheduled for 2015 are as follows:

  • Valentine’s Day Saturday- 2/14/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Easter Saturday – 4/4/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Mother’s Day Saturday – 5/9/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Father’s Day Saturday – 6/20/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Grandparents Day Saturday – 9/12/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Veterans Day – 11/11/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Thanksgiving Day – 11/26/15 (9:30 a.m.)
  • Christmas Day – 12/25/15 (9:30 a.m. and/or 12 Noon)

Volunteers gather at their choice of the three meeting places listed below and are organized into teams to go on to visit assigned locations. (Each volunteer is responsible for his/her own transportation.)

Volunteers meet at either of the following three meeting places:

SOUTHWEST — Volunteer Houston Office — 12425 Chimney Rock, # 250;      Houston (77035)

CY-FAIR — Grace Care Center of Cypress — 9602 Huffmeister; Houston  (77095)

KATY — Grace Care Center of Katy — 23553 West Fernhurst Drive; Katy (77494)

At each respective meeting place,  each volunteer will be given a map to their assigned visit site and greeting cards to share with the persons they visit. Time spent at the assigned sites varies from visit to visit, but typically a visit lasts from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.
