Veteran Leader Corps – Apply Now

Each National Direct member will work to develop or expand community wide workforce readiness services for veterans. They will recruit, train, and support veteran volunteer leaders who will support ongoing service efforts, veteran community engagement and veteran service. In turn, each volunteer leader will support new or expanded year-round veteran-serving programs and projects in their communities. The Veteran Leader Corps is a national service program that engages veterans as AmeriCorps members to support the needs of newly separated veterans. The program focuses specifically on providing employment support services and community engagement opportunities for veterans. An added aspect of the program is that many veterans, military spouses, and military kids are engaged as volunteers in their community.

Member Duties :

• Training and certification with work readiness assessment tools • Recruit and train veterans to serve and fill the role of Volunteer Recruit and place leaders for programs and projects, monitor and support ongoing programmatic success, and share best practices (note: this activity is also considered a community engagement activity) • Intentional networking opportunities • Provide ongoing coaching, identify and match professional mentors with veteran volunteer leaders, support job readiness assessments and counseling activities. • Support local job fairs with coordinated work readiness programs taking place prior to job fairs • Managing Volunteer Houston’s Facebook page, Twitter account, other social media accounts, and increasing the overall presence of Volunteer Houston online • Managing the Volunteer Database and metrics in relation to veteran organization and projects
