2021 MLK Corporate Service Project

Join Us! During the week of January 18, 2021, Volunteer Houston, the Houston affiliate for Points of Light, will commemorate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an impactful and socially distanced service project designed to support Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives for companies of all sizes. His words “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve” are a daily reminder of the importance of volunteerism. Engage your employees in a meaningful kit assembly project that gives you the opportunity to support local nonprofits and underserved communities in the Greater Houston area.

Through this corporate service project, your employees will understand the importance of volunteering to support underserved and economically challenged communities who have been impacted not only by this pandemic, but also by systemic inequalities.

We believe this project unites our communities through volunteerism, honors the legacy of Dr. King and benefits families in need during a time when many families are struggling to manage inequities and financial struggles brought on as a result of the pandemic.

Step 1

Determine the number of employees who will each assemble 15 kits in high demand by local nonprofits and their clients.

Determine whether each employee will take a personal project box home to assemble kits with family and friends OR employees will assemble kits at your office in a socially distanced manner.

In either case, we will prepare the materials for your employees to serve our community by assembling the types of kits our neighbors need the most.

Step 2

By Dec 22nd

Register online by December 22nd. Registrations received by Dec. 9th will receive a $100 credit!

We will generate a custom invoice within 2 business days. Your registration commits your company to participating in the 2021 MLK Corporate Service Project.

Register to participate using the form below.

Step 3

We will deliver your project materials to your office the week of MLK Day (Jan 18 – 22). Your team members should pick up their personal project boxes, assemble kits and return to your office by Thursday, January 28th. We will coordinate the pick up of assembled kits on Friday January 29th.

Or you may choose to ship personal project boxes directly to each of your employee’s homes utilizing your company’s own shipping account. In this case Volunteer Houston will still coordinate shipping to and from corporate volunteers’ homes.

Step 4

Thurs. Jan. 28th @ 12 noon

Learn with us! Participate in a service learning session via ZOOM alongside other Houston-area businesses whose employees also participated in the 2021 MLK Corporate Service Project. Learn how the volunteer work your team performed is impacting our community. You’ll hear directly from the benefiting organizations, and we’ll recap collective and individual company contributions.
