Is Pathways only for students?
No. Pathways is for volunteers of all ages, including students, working adults, career-changers, and retirees.
Are opportunities paid?
All internships and work-study placements are unpaid and focus on service-based learning experiences.
How long do opportunities last?
It varies. Some roles are short-term projects, while others run for multiple weeks or a semester depending on the placement.
Do I need experience?
Not always. Many roles welcome people who are learning. Each placement will list any required skills or expectations.
What if my availability changes?
That’s okay—just communicate early. Some roles are flexible, while others require consistent weekly hours.

Can my participation be verified?
Yes. Approved volunteer hours appear in your Volunteer Houston profile and can be used to generate a resume. Hours from outside organizations may be added manually with documentation.
How should I document my experience?
Keep a simple record of your role, dates, tasks, and skills gained and hours. This helps with resumes and identifying any missing or unreported hours.
